Custom Software Development in San Diego, led by the engineer you talk to
DevX Group LLC is a San Diego software studio founded in January 2024 and led by founder Max Sheikhizadeh, who writes the code himself. A partner studio scales a project from one senior engineer to a full team when needed. We build web, mobile and AI products at $95 to $175 per hour, most first releases shipped in 4 to 12 weeks.
Why a local studio still matters
Most of the software work in San Diego routes through outsourcing shops that use the city as one of dozens of landing pages, or through directories that never put you in a room with the person writing your code. We are actually here.
Being local means the kickoff and the demos can happen in person anywhere in San Diego County if you want them to, not because a video call is worse but because some decisions move faster across a table. It also means you are contracting with a US company under California law, not routing a wire overseas.
- Same time zone, so a Slack message during your work hours gets a same-day answer, not an overnight one.
- In-person kickoff and demos anywhere in San Diego County, on request.
- US contracting under California law: one signed agreement, one point of contact.
- An NDA before any code, mockup or business detail changes hands.
How we work with San Diego companies
The process is the same whether you are three blocks away or three time zones away, because it has to survive both. Every project runs on a fixed cadence so you always know where the build stands and never have to ask.
- Bi-weekly demos of working software, not slide decks.
- Transparent hourly pricing published on our pricing page, no hidden retainer.
- You own the code, the repository and the configs at acceptance, not just a license to use them.
- 30 days of stabilization after launch, fixing what real usage surfaces before we call it done.
Who we are a fit for
We are a fit for startups and small companies in San Diego that need one product built well: a web app, a mobile app, or an AI feature added to something that already exists. You get the founder writing the code, not an account manager relaying to an offshore team.
We are not a fit for everything, and we would rather say so now than after a signed contract. We do not do staff augmentation, dropping a contractor into your existing team and payroll process. We do not run a 24/7 support hotline; stabilization is 30 days of direct, fast response, not a call center.
What we build
Three services, one team. AI development covers agents, RAG systems and on-device models. Web development covers marketing sites and web applications on Next.js. Mobile development covers native iOS with SwiftUI and cross-platform apps with Flutter.
What we build with
Named tools, and the reason each one is on the list.
Next.js and TypeScript
The web layer behind our sites, dashboards and API routes.
Flutter and SwiftUI
One codebase for iOS and Android with Flutter, or SwiftUI when the product needs to feel fully native.
Claude and GPT models via the Vercel AI SDK
Frontier models picked per task, swappable without a rewrite.
Supabase and pgvector
Postgres, auth and retrieval in one place, no separate vector database to run.
Ollama and Core ML
On-device inference for products where the data cannot leave the machine.
How an engagement runs
Bi-weekly demos throughout. Code, configs and runbooks are yours at acceptance.
- 01Week 1
Discovery
We define the one product worth building first, the users it serves, and what "done" looks like before any code is written.
- 02Weeks 2 to 6
Build
Working software shown in a bi-weekly demo, with priorities re-ranked as we learn what actually matters.
- 03Weeks 6 to 10
Harden
Edge cases, error handling, performance and the checks that keep a product working once real people use it.
- 04Weeks 10 to 12
Launch and stabilize
Production release, then 30 days of on-call fixes while real usage arrives. Code and configs are yours at acceptance.

Questions we get asked
How much does custom software development cost in San Diego?
- DevX Group LLC bills $95 to $175 per hour depending on the engagement tier, published on our pricing page. A focused first release, one web app, one mobile app or one AI feature, usually takes 4 to 12 weeks. We scope a fixed price after week-one discovery so the total is known before build starts, not discovered on the invoice.
Do you meet in person?
- Yes, if you are in San Diego County. We can do the kickoff and demos in person; most clients, local or not, are happy running the same process over video. Either way you get the founder in the room, or on the call, writing the code and answering the questions directly.
Are you an agency or a freelancer?
- Neither, exactly. DevX Group LLC is a founder-led studio: Max Sheikhizadeh runs and codes every engagement personally, and a partner engineering studio scales the team up when a project needs more hands than one person. You get a named engineer, not a headcount, and not a solo contractor with no backup if the scope grows.
What industries do you work with?
- Our shipped work spans health (Nutrify.AI, Dr. Miremadi's dermatology clinic), education (an interview-prep platform, an e-learning certification platform), agriculture (a smart-farming and eco-tourism platform), and e-commerce (household goods and confectionery brands). We take on new industries when the underlying problem, a workflow to automate or a product to ship, is one we understand.
How do I start?
- Book a call through our contact page or send a message through the contact form. We use week one to define the one product worth building first and what "done" looks like, before any pricing gets locked in or any code gets written.
